When we got there doctor told us that good news is she's gaining weight even though she is spitting up quite a bit. She weighs 14lbs 3 1/2 oz. Doctor told us that she has colic (we already suspected that but to hear it I guess makes us know that this is what she has and what we have to do to deal with it.) I know that colic will go away in a couple of months. She did say that we could make it easier on Kathryn by continuing the Zantac religiously twice a day (which we weren't doing on a consistent basis) and by mixing cereal in with her formula.
Since food allergies run in my family, they are considering running tests on Kathryn when she's a little over 6 months old. I asked if Oatmeal could cause her face to get rashy and blistery from time to time. I asked only because I know from personal experience with Raymont that whenever he ate something he was allergic to, he would break out only on his face and head. Same thing with Kathryn. So the doctor recommended that we try the Barley to see if the rash will go away. We've tried rice cereal but that only made her constipated. Worse case scenario if the Barley doesn't work, we can always switch back to the Oatmeal. We have already switched lotions and soaps to Aveeno and are giving her baths every other day now instead of everyday like before. Those are not the culprits of her rash.
On the upside of things, she has been progressing nicely. Here are some of the things she can do now:
Her bedtime routine is from 9pm-5am. After her 5am feeding, she goes back to sleep for a couple of more hours.
She talks back to you when you start a conversation...
She smiles more often and squeals especially if you say "ba" or "boo"....
She can sit upright for at least 10 minutes against a sofa now without assistance.....
She has turned over once since this past Monday. Her neck and arms are getting stronger each day....
We know how to differentiate her cries now from when she's hungry or needs to be burped or held....
She loves staring at pictures when you read to her. She also gets fascinated watching you talk to her....
She enjoys time by herself either in her bouncer or swing...which is nice because it gives me a chance to do some things around the house....
She loves putting her hands in her mouth. I try teaching her to suck her thumb and it'll work for a few minutes then sticks her fist back in her mouth. :)
She tries to reach for things. More like she'll lean towards what she's looking at. She can't grasp things as of yet....
I no longer have to rock her to bed. During the day if I put her in the swing she'll stay awake for a few minutes then drift off to sleep. At night we put her in the crib still half awake and she puts herself to sleep....
